Ben Jenkins follows in our second installment of Extended Family with his LLAP (Live Long And Prosper) mix, but don't let the nerdy name of his project fool you. This all vinyl mix oozes moody cool - a vibe that will surely make your head rock. Be advised, this mix may be best heard at high volume. Ben joins the District of Columbia by way of Memphis, where early on he was active in the small electronic scene of Tennessee by throwing monthly parties at Mollis Fontaine Lounge as well as house parties in the area. He also hosted "Weekend Wax," a Sunday radio show on LFO Radio. Ben brought his appetite for the perfect party when he moved to DC. Extended Family member Mike Petillo fondly noted last week that Jenkins is at "every party around here within a 30 mile radius." Extended Family is about the love and propagation of the groove, so Ben is a perfect fit. To say that he exudes positive energy is an understatement. Ben is a great addition to any crowd or lineup - really, truly here for the music (and the math; Ben moonlights as a mathematician). Despite hailing from Memphis, LLAP is clearly a mix that draws from the classic sounds from Detroit and Chicago. Ben's debut as a producer was back in 2012 with Blank Records on a split, Untitled EP. 2014 was another big year. He not only contributed to yet another split EP with Mystical Disco alongside Adam Arthur and Jackson Lee called Memphis Trax, but then received international attention for releasing K3M on Larry Heard's label, Alleviated. After listening to his hard hitting, pulsating techno tracks, Ben's charming southern accent will surely take you off guard. Ben plans on releasing new records with Jackson Lee on Mystical Disco in the near future as well as carving his niche in the local DC scene - he is definitely one to keep an eye on.
